Message in a Bottle
Far from what I usually do during this day of the year, I just stayed at home. Besides having been sick for the last two days, I just don’t really feel like going out. But sometimes, staying at home is the same as doing nothing.
Just when I’m close to getting bored… I came across a VCD which I bought two weeks ago.. I almost forgot about it :c)
It’s a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks’ novel entitled “Message in a Bottle”. A close friend of mine told me that it’s nice and I should see it. I thought that if it’s from Nicholas Sparks then it must be as good as “A Walk to Remember” and “The Notebook”.
It’s about Garret (played by Kevin Costner) who’s been grieving from the death of his wife, Catherine. He wrote letters for Catherine, one of those was found inside a bottle on a beach by Theresa (played by Robin Wright Penn).
She tracked and searched for the author of the message only to find herself falling in love with a man holding on very tight to the memory of his lost wife.
All throughout the movie, I felt something heavy on my chest. Every part, every scene is really made to draw mix emotions from the viewers. In fact, I remember having goose bumps especially when the letters are read… and there were about a dozen times when I felt like crying.
The ending is heartbreaking. I wished it had not ended that way. At any rate, it is still one of the best movies I have ever seen.
Let me quote Theresa’s memorable line at the end of the film:
“If some lives form a perfect circle, other take shape in ways we cannot predict or always understand. Loss has been part of my journey. But it has also shown me what is precious. So has love for which I can only be grateful.”
